Apr 29, 2025 Dance Studies program to hold Inaugural Spring Dance Concert

April 29, 2025- The Dance Studies program at CSU Channel Islands is pleased to announce the inaugural Spring Dance Concert, ((echo/pulse)).

((echo/pulse)) is a 90-minute show featuring original works in the styles of Hip Hop, Contemporary, Modern, Latin Ballroom, Tap, Hoop Dance, and more! From first-time choreographers to seasoned professionals, this collection of works encapsulates the skill, spirit, and creativity of the students within the CI Dance Studies program.

Faculty and guest artists choreographers include the Chair of Department of Dance, Music, and Theatre, Heather Castillo; Founder and Director of Selcouth Dance Theater Company Marianna Varviani; Artist-in-Residence Julian Xiong, and Lecturer Carina Fourmyle.

The show will be held in Malibu Hall's black box theater and features a number of student choreographers and performers. Glitch In The Feedby Kortni Godsey and Madison Simpson lightheartedly mocks and brings attention to our relationship with screens, social media, and self image through a playful medley of hip hop choreography and projections of lifelike animations. Echoes of Creation,by Julian Xiong, is a fierce array of house, waacking, and voguing that pays homage to the African Diaspora as the origin of hip hop and its breadth of popular sub-styles. In Dancing With The Dark, Jade Barth explores the transformation of pain through movement with her hula hoop; reaching, dragging, and spinning her hoop, and her fears, through space.

Shows will be held on May 1 and 2 at 8 p.m. and May 3 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase online. Children and students may attend for free, and the performances are appropriate for all ages. Visit the CI Dance Studies Flow Pagefor additional details about the show.
