Cyclosporiasis: Bronson Taking Precautionary Steps

Cyclosporiasis: Bronson Taking Precautionary Steps During Outbreak

All Bronson Locations and Providers to Remain In-Network with UnitedHealthcare

Update: July 15, 2026

As a precaution and in alignment with current public health guidance, Bronson has temporarily removed certain salad bar items, leafy greens and other higher-risk fresh produce items associated with reported cases of Cyclospora from patient and public food service areas while more is learned about the cyclosporiasis outbreak. This step was taken to help protect the health and safety of our patients, visitors and staff. Cyclosporiasis is a foodborne illness that can be spread through contaminated food or water. The source of the current outbreak remains under investigation by public health officials, and Bronson will continue to monitor updates and adjust our practices as needed, in alignment with current public health guidance.

How to reduce your risk

Community members can take simple steps at home to reduce the risk of foodborne illness: • Wash hands with soap and water before and after preparing or handling fresh fruits and vegetables.

  • Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly under running water using a vegetable brush before eating, cutting or cooking them.
  • Scrub firm produce, such as melons and cucumbers, with a clean produce brush.
  • Cut away bruised or damaged areas before preparing or eating produce.
  • Refrigerate cut, peeled or cooked fruits and vegetables within two hours.
  • Avoid using soap, bleach, disinfectants or household cleaners on produce.
  • You may also use one part vinegar to three parts water to soak vegetables for a few minutes before serving. If appropriate, cooking is another option.
  • Wash hands with soap and water. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers will not remove Cyclospora.

When to contact a healthcare provider

Anyone with symptoms such as ongoing watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, fatigue or dehydration are encouraged to contact their healthcare provider for guidance.
