LeadingAge Endorses Bipartisan, Bicameral Housing Preservation Bill

The Affordable Housing Preservation and Protection Act would help preserve affordable housing for older adults.

Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE) was joined by Representatives Shontel Brown (D-OH-11) and Carols Gimenez (R-FL-21) on the September 25, 2026 introduction of the Affordable Housing Preservation and Protection Act.

The bill, If enacted, would provide loans to owners of distressed Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)-assisted housing, including Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly program homes, to ensure they are able to make necessary capital improvements and continue to provide housing for our country's most vulnerable households. Senator Blunt Rochester has been vocal about the need to follow up the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act-which was heavy on statutory changes and light on funding-with more tangible action. LeadingAge supports this stance, and we appreciate the senator's willingness to speak out on how crucial programs like this are for housing providers across the country.
