Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) graced the 42nd War Heroes' Day of the Police Special Task Force as the Chief Guest at the STF Training School in Katukurunda, Kalutara, this morning (01 September).
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Minister paid tribute to the STF war heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation. He stated that the nation remains indebted to these fallen heroes. He highlighted the immense sacrifices endured by the parents, spouses, children and family members of those who made the supreme sacrifice, noting that their enduring pain and loss serve as a poignant reminder of the true value of the peace achieved through such sacrifices. He stressed the importance of remembering and honouring these war heroes and said that their courage and commitment should continue to inspire present and future generations.
The annual commemorative ceremony honoured the memory of 464 STF personnel and six civil employees who made the supreme sacrifice in defence of the country, while also paying tribute to more than 700 STF personnel who sustained injuries in the line of duty.
Additional Secretary, Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Inspector General of Police, Senior DIG Western Province, STF Commandant, serving and retired senior police and STF officers, and family members of the fallen STF war heroes were also present at the commemorative ceremony.
