Strava Publishes Its Inaugural Strava Metro: Commute Report Revealing Cycle Commuting Trends in 2025

  • First-ever Strava Metro: Commute Report reveals that cyclists worldwide logged 550 million miles of bike commutes in 2025, with Boomers emerging as the most active cycling commuters.

  • Strava Metro is a free anonymised dataset used by over 4,000 global partners to enhance pedestrian infrastructure.

San Francisco, CA: 22nd April, 2026
    - Strava - the app for active people with more than 195 million users in over 185 countries - today published the very first Strava Metro: Commute Report, revealing how the world commuted by bicycle throughout 2025.

The new insights into last year's global commuting behaviours have been published using Strava Metro - a dataset of de-identified and aggregated pedestrian trips recorded on Strava, that's completely free-of-charge as part of Strava's social impact commitments. More than 4,000 city planners, governmental agencies and infrastructure decision-makers worldwide have used the anonymized dataset to understand commuting patterns and implemented infrastructure enhancements as a result. Through collaborating with approved partners, nearly 1 billion people worldwide have been positively impacted through Strava Metro.

The report analyzed cycling commute activities recorded on Strava between January and December last year, and demonstrates the significant value commuting has on communities around the world. Key findings include:

  • A total of 550,000,000 miles were logged as cycle commutes: That's the equivalent of cycling the Earth 22,000 times, or further than Artemis II travelled from Earth during its historic loop around the moon by more than 2170 times.

  • Boomers top the commute-leaderboard: Boomers led the way on active travel - Gen Z were 21% less likely to record a bike commute compared to Boomers.

  • E-Bike is charging ahead: Boomers were also more likely to have commuted using an e-bike, and Iceland topped the global charts of e-bike commutes - closely followed by Belgium and then Norway.

  • Come rain or shine, we commute in all conditions: From the coldest depths of Finland to the warmest weathers of Japan, the global commuting community still got to where they needed to be on two-wheels.

Brian Bell, Vice President of Communications and Social Impact, said
: "We are extremely proud of the work Strava Metro has undertaken in collaboration with partners around the world to improve active transport infrastructure, and it is an integral part of Strava's global social impact initiatives.

"Through this report, it is clear to see just how powerful the act of commuting is and we hope to inspire many more people to be part of the active travel community by logging their commutes - doing so means more than simply tracking journeys, it contributes towards making human-powered travel safer and more accessible for everyone."
