UPDATE #2: Juvenile in Custody, Charged with October 25 Murder in Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood

On November 1, 2025 at 2:15 p.m., Portland Police officers assigned to East Precinct responded to a hit and run call (25-300149) in the area of Southeast 117^th Avenue and Southeast Ash Street. They learned that four people ran from the car (which was stolen). The officers established a perimeter around the area and searched, ultimately finding the four suspects. Several firearms were recovered, and officers with the Focused Intervention Team (FIT) responded to help process evidence. Through investigative follow-up and inter-unit collaboration between patrol, FIT, the Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST), and the Homicide Unit, one of the suspects was connected to the homicide and lodged at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center on charges including Murder in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

The victim's family has been notified of the charges.

The victim of the homicide on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Southeast 142^nd Avenue and Southeast Division Street is identified as Andrew "Andy" Nguyen, 22, of Portland. His family has been notified of his death and is requesting privacy. The Oregon State Medical Examiner determined he died of homicide by gunshot wound.

One Deceased after Shooting in Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood

A man is deceased following a shooting in Southeast Portland. On Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 5:24 p.m., Portland Police Officers assigned to East Precinct responded to a report of a shooting in the area of Southeast 142nd and Division Street. When they arrived, they locate an adult male injured. Officers applied trauma first aid and summoned paramedics. The man was transported to the hospital by ambulance where, despite lifesaving measures, he died.

The suspect or suspects left the scene before police arrived, and no immediate arrests were made.

Detectives with the Portland Police Homicide Unit are responding to the scene to investigate the case. During the investigation, westbound Southeast Division Street is closed between Southeast 145^th Avenue and Southeast 141^st Avenue.
