MDOT open house Sept. 14 for I-75 rebuilding project in Monroe County

LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) invites the public to attend an open house to learn about updates and changes to the proposed improvements on I-75 from Laplaisance Road to N. Dixie Highway in the city of Monroe, Frenchtown Charter Township and Monroe Charter Township.

Project information:
MDOT is planning to rebuild 2.4 miles of I-75 and replace six bridges from LaPlaisance Road to N. Dixie Highway in the city of Monroe, Frenchtown Charter Township and Monroe Charter Township in Monroe County. Work is expected to occur in 2028-2030.

Key improvements include replacing the Dunbar Road bridge over I-75, replacing the I-75 bridge over the River Raisin, removing the Elm Avenue interchange to eliminate existing weaving/merging issues that pose safety concerns, rebuilding the Front Street interchange with enhanced ramps to improve vehicle and truck movement, and upgrading traffic flow at the Front Street and N. Dixie Highway intersections.

MDOT is also seeking public input on anticipated impacts on pedestrian and bicycle traffic on the River Raisin Heritage Trail under the I-75 railroad bridge during active construction per a proposed de minimis impact finding under Section 4(f) of the U.S. Department of Transportation Act of 1966. Input can be provided regarding recreational impacts either in-person or via email, U.S. mail or the online comment form by Oct.14, 2026.
