Entergy Mississippi prepares for heavy rainfall, potential flooding

JACKSON, Miss. - Entergy Mississippi is preparing for severe weather related to Tropical Storm Arthur as it moves through the central and southern parts of the state over the next 24 hours. The storm is expected to bring thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and potential flooding to our service area. Entergy crews are ready to respond quickly and safely.

Falling vegetation, oversaturated grounds and flooding pose a significant risk of causing damage to the electric grid. We are taking precautions now to ensure the safety of employees and the public.

  • Our crews regularly inspect and maintain equipment, including underground vaults that serve some downtown areas like Jackson's downtown business district. The equipment in these vaults is designed to be submersible, and we do not anticipate floodwaters will cause outages in these areas.
  • We make every effort to avoid service interruptions; however, if floodwaters approach our equipment or facilities pose a clear threat to the safety of employees or the public, we will disrupt service until it is safe to restore it.
  • Due to changes in water levels, we may need to move quickly to disconnect service to affected areas prior to any individual notification to customers. We will keep customers informed when conditions warrant disconnections.

Stay safe

Entergy Mississippi urges customers to stay safe. Take the time now to get your personal storm plans in place, including planning for any medical needs that require electricity, and to make a kit with basic supplies needed in an emergency.

Stay away from downed power lines and flooded areas. Do not walk in standing water and do not venture into areas of debris, since energized and dangerous power lines may not be visible. Report downed lines immediately by calling 1-800-9OUTAGE (1-800-968-8243) and call your local police station or fire department.
