Maria Angelidou-Smith to Depart Reddit

Announcements October 07, 2026

Maria Angelidou-Smith, our Chief Product Officer, has decided to leave Reddit to become the CEO of a globally scaled, multi-billion-dollar business. Her last day will be October 14th.

"Reddit improved under Maria's leadership, and our product is better today than it was when she joined," said Steve Huffman, Reddit Founder and CEO. "She made a lasting difference here, and you can see it in the team she built. Today, we have talented product and technology teams in place, executing against a great product roadmap and well positioned to build on our progress."

Reddit has initiated a comprehensive search process for its next Chief Product Officer, and Amit Puntambekar, our Chief Technology Officer, will lead the product team until a permanent replacement is named. Since joining the company, Amit has played an instrumental role in enhancing Reddit's user experience, scaling engineering, accelerating product delivery, and modernizing our AI and LLM infrastructure. His work here earned him recognition as a TIME100 Executive of the Year in 2026 for Tech and Data.

"The improvements in our underlying technology are proof of the immediate impact Amit has had at Reddit," said Huffman. "He's a genuine person that I've greatly enjoyed partnering with, and a strong leader who brings out the best in his team. I appreciate that he's stepped up during this transition."

Our product strategy and work will remain focused on strengthening people's core experience on Reddit and making the app part of their daily lives. At its heart, Reddit is people talking to people. We're continuing to make those conversations and communities easier to discover, helping more people experience what makes Reddit a unique destination.
