Prime Minister reiterates Portugal’s support to Venezuela

The Portuguese Prime Minister left on Monday a message of condolence and hope to Venezuela, reiterating Portugal's support for the country following the earthquakes.

Luís Montenegro also expressed his sympathies for the victims and losses suffer4ed by the Portuguese and Luso-descendants in the country, recalling that Portugal has already deployed emergency teams to assist with the search and rescue operations on the ground.

The Head of Government made these statements at the start of the Lufthansa Technik Portugal launch ceremony in Santa Maria da Feira and made a point of explaining that he chose to address the matter on this occasion, as this is a region with strong ties to the Portuguese community residing in Venezuela.

"It is a land from where many have departed in the past in search of opportunities elsewhere, namely Venezuela", recalling that this is the site for the Luso-Venezuelan Centre, an association that brings together the relatives of Portuguese and Luso-descendants who resided or reside in Venezuela.

"And that is why I want to guarantee from here to the President of Venezuela and the entire Venezuelan people and the Portuguese and Luso-descendants who live in Venezuela that in additi9on to the teams already deployed and on the ground, in the coming months and years we will try to be even closer to the people and the country so we can build a more prosperous and fairer future for the region and the population", he claimed.

Luís Montenegro also stressed that the Portuguese Embassy in Caracas and the consulate network are ready to assist the Portuguese community in Venezuela.
