The President Met With The Head Of The American Jewish Committee And U.S. Jewish Organizations

President Gitanas Nausėda met in New York with Theodore Eliot Deutch, Chief Executive Officer of the American Jewish Committee, and representatives of major U.S. Jewish organizations.

The President presented Mr. Deutch with a Lithuanian state decoration - the Cross of the Knight of the Order "For Merits to Lithuania" - for his consistent efforts to strengthen Lithuania-U.S. cooperation in security and defense, as well as for his commitment to mobilizing the international community in support of democracy, respect for human rights and the fight against antisemitism.

During the meeting, President Nausėda emphasized that Lithuania is deeply committed to preserving the historical heritage of its Jewish community, honoring the memory of Holocaust victims, and recognizing the contribution of Lithuanian Jews to national statehood. He underlined that the future we are building today must be based on respect for human dignity, tolerance and justice, while strong partnerships help defend these values internationally.

The meeting also addressed Lithuanian-Israeli relations and security challenges in the Middle East. The President reaffirmed Lithuania's support for further cooperation with Israel in defense, security, education, and culture. He condemned the attacks by the terrorist group Hamas against Israel and stressed that Lithuania supports Israel's right to self-defense in accordance with international law.

The President expressed support for the negotiations mediated by the United States, Qatar and Egypt on a ceasefire and the release of hostages in the Gaza Strip. He underscored the urgent need to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza, ensure medical aid and evacuations, and reiterated Lithuania's support for the two-state solution as the only path to lasting peace.

Gitanas Nausėda also highlighted the necessity of full international support for Ukraine today - financial, military and political. He thanked U.S. Jewish organizations for their long-standing attention to Lithuania and their support for the shared values of democracy, security and freedom.
