On 1 October 2026 in Washington, D.C., IFPMA delivered a statement on the plan of action for cervical cancer prevention and control 2018-2030 at the 63rd Directing Council of the Pan American Health Organization and ahead of the 78th WHO Regional Committee for the Americas.
We welcome the progress achieved by PAHO and countries across the region in advancing the Cervical Cancer Elimination Initiative and reaffirm our commitment to the shared goal of eliminating cervical cancer and reducing the burden of HPV-related diseases.
Reaching this goal requires a comprehensive, life-course approach to prevention, including equitable access to and uptake of HPV vaccination for girls and boys, as well as catch-up vaccination for adolescents and young adults. Continued investment in HPV vaccination, screening, and early detection programs is critical to sustaining momentum and expanding access to prevention and care.
We further recognize that significant progress depends on strong partnerships among governments, PAHO, civil society, healthcare professionals, and industry. Through continued collaboration and commitment, we can strengthen prevention efforts, improve access to innovative and effective interventions, and accelerate progress toward a future free from HPV-related cancers.
IFPMA represents the innovative pharmaceutical industry at the international level, engaging in official relations with the United Nations and multilateral organizations.
