Congresswoman Schrier’s Bill to Strengthen American Manufacturing Signed Into Law

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) announced that her Critical Infrastructure Manufacturing Feasibility Act was signed into law. The bipartisan legislation will assess and strengthen domestic manufacturing of critical infrastructure goods to bolster manufacturing in rural communities.

"I am proud to announce that my Critical Infrastructure Manufacturing Feasibility Act was signed into law," said Congresswoman Schrier. "This new law will ultimately create jobs and boost local and rural economies. We need a clear understanding of what products our country absolutely needs to manufacture and what products our country is best equipped to manufacture, and this law will inform us about the role American manufacturing will play in the years ahead. I look forward to continuing this bipartisan work to strengthen our local economies and support rural communities."

BACKGROUND: The Critical Infrastructure Manufacturing Feasibility Act directs the Secretary of Commerce to study which high-demand critical infrastructure products are currently imported, assess the costs of domestic production, and evaluate the feasibility of manufacturing these goods in rural communities and industrial parks.

Critical infrastructure sectors include national security, the economy, public health, and safety. The findings must be reported to Congress within 18 months of enactment.
