County elections officials encourage citizens to get Vote Ready on National Voter Registration Day

OREGON - County elections officials in Clackamas, Marion, Multnomah, Washington and Yamhill counties are encouraging Oregonians to take a few minutes to get Vote Ready for the November 3, 2026 General Election.

National Voter Registration Day is a nationwide, nonpartisan effort that brings together election officials, organizations and volunteers to encourage eligible citizens to register to vote and to make a plan to participate in upcoming elections.

"You can do three things now to be Vote Ready for the general election," report the county elections officials in a joint statement, "Check your voter registration, sign up for ballot tracking, and make a plan to vote. Taking these steps now helps ensure you are prepared to vote when your ballot arrives."

County elections officials encourage voters to take these three steps:

1. Check your voter registration record and make sure your information is current at oregonvotes.gov. Voters should update their voter registration any time they move, change their residence or mailing address, change their name, or want to change their party affiliation. The voter registration deadline for online registration is Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 11:59 p.m.

1. Sign up for a ballot tracking service. Voters in Clackamas, Marion, Multnomah, Washington, and Yamhill counties can sign up for Track Your Ballot to receive notifications by text, phone, or email. This free service lets voters know when their ballot has been mailed. After a voter returns a ballot, Track Your Ballot provides updates when the ballot is received and when it has been accepted for counting by the county elections office. Voters can sign up at ballottrax.net/voter or learn more through their county elections office.

1. Make a plan to VOTE! Elections officials will begin to mail ballots to voters on Wednesday, Oct. 14 and should receive them by Oct. 22 Get prepared and make a plan that includes when you will receive your ballot, when and where you will vote, and how you will be returning your ballot. We recommend that you return your ballot to any Official Ballot Drop Site in the state as soon as you are ready. To find the closest drop site near you visit oregonvotes.gov. If you choose to mail your ballot, plan to do so at least a week before Election Day. Voted ballots must be mailed with a valid postmark or returned to an Official Ballot Drop Site by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

Voters who will be away from home during the voting period can request an absentee ballot. Absentee ballots can be mailed to your temporary address or picked up at your county elections office beginning Sep. 21.

Did you know? County election offices conduct logic and accuracy tests each election ensuring that the tabulation equipment functions as expected and accurately counts votes as marked. A logic and accuracy test is conducted once before ballots begin to be processed and again after all ballots have been tabulated. Elections processes like this are available for observation by the public and observers are welcome.

November 3, 2026 General Election Countdown

• Sep. 21 - First day that the county elections office may provide in person or by mail, an absentee ballot. Contact your county elections office for assistance.

• Oct. 13 - Voter Registration Deadline

• Oct. 14 - County elections offices may begin mailing ballots to voters.

• Oct. 22 - If you have not yet received your ballot by mail, please contact your county elections office.

• Nov. 3 - Election Day. County elections office is open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Ballots must be mailed back with a valid postmark on or before Election Day or returned to an Official Ballot Drop Site before 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.
