American Airlines and AAdvantage members raise record $6.2 million for Stand Up To Cancer

FORT WORTH, Texas - American Airlines is proud to announce that AAdvantage® members, team members and partners helped raise a $6.2 million during this year's annual fundraising campaign benefiting Stand Up To Cancer® (SU2C).

The six-week campaign - which ran from Aug. 13 through Sept. 30 - generated the largest fundraising total in the partnership's history, advancing efforts to accelerate groundbreaking cancer research.

Since joining forces with SU2C in 2016, American has raised more than $40 million in support of the mission.

Founded in 2008, SU2C funds collaborative, multidisciplinary cancer research designed to accelerate the development of new therapies and improve outcomes for patients around the world.

As part of this year's campaign, customers who donated $25 or more received 25 AAdvantage® bonus miles for every dollar donated. Thanks to the generous support of Mastercard, those who used their AAdvantage® Mastercard® credit card received 50 bonus miles for every dollar donated, helping the campaign reach an initial $5 million in donations on Aug. 28.

"Year after year, our AAdvantage® members, partners and team members continue to show up in extraordinary ways in support of Stand Up To Cancer, and this year was no different," said Director of Partnerships and Community Griffin Gonzalez. "Together, they helped make this the most successful campaign in our 10-year partnership, raising more funds than ever to support groundbreaking cancer research. A decade later, this campaign continues to unite people around a shared goal: funding discoveries that bring us closer to eradicating cancer for good."

Throughout this year's campaign, there were several meaningful moments that reinforced the importance of this partnership. American Captain Steve Hayes shared his personal cancer journey, offering a powerful reminder of why this mission matters, while SU2C night with the Texas Rangers brought fans, players and supporters together in a show of solidarity and included a $50,000 donation from American and the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation.

While this year's campaign has concluded, donations to SU2C can be made year-round. The 10 miles-per-dollar offer remains available, allowing customers to continue supporting SU2C's mission to accelerate the development of new cancer treatments.
