Daniel Klein Receives 2027 Mentor Award from the Association for Psychological Science

Stony Brook University Distinguished Professor Daniel Klein has been awarded a 2027 Association for Psychological Science (APS) Mentor Award.

This award recognizes APS members who have significantly helped foster the careers of others, honoring those who masterfully help students and others find their own voices and discover their own research and career goals. It also recognizes the impact of these individuals with a distinguished record of teaching, advising and encouraging colleagues.

Klein is a professor of clinical psychological science in the College of Arts and Sciences Department of Psychology. His research focuses on developmental psychopathology and adult psychopathology, particularly mood disorders in children, adolescents and adults. It explores the intergenerational transmission of depression; the roles of temperament and emotional reactivity, and early adversity in the development and course of mood disorders; the long-term course and continuity of mood disorders; the classification of mood disorders; comorbidity between depression and other disorders; and the psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacological treatment of depressive disorders.

Not only has his mentoring positively impacted all of his students, it has positively impacted the development and growth of the field."

Prior to joining Stony Brook University, Klein served on the faculty of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He received his PhD from the State University of New York at Buffalo, conducted his pre-doctoral internship at the University of Rochester Medical Center and earned his BA from Brandeis University.
