Pennsylvania American Water to Offer Open House and Public Tours of Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant

EXETER, Pa. (Oct. 1, 2025) - Pennsylvania American Water invites customers to an open house and tours of its Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 9:30-11:30 a.m.

At the event, guests will see firsthand what happens to wastewater after it leaves their home and goes through the treatment process, learn about equipment used to maintain the wastewater collection system and gain and understanding of watershed protection and conservation. Customers will also have the opportunity to speak with Pennsylvania American Water's local management team and wastewater treatment professionals and ask questions about the service they receive.

"Our Exeter wastewater team is proud to serve more than 6,800 customer connections," said Pennsylvania American Wastewater Operations Manager David Seltzer. "This open house will provide our customers with a unique opportunity to learn more about the wastewater treatment process and our commitment to Exeter Township."

Visitors of all ages will be offered guided outdoor walking tours at this rain-or-shine, no-cost event.

The plant is located at 400 Hanover Street in Birdsboro. Those who plan to attend should wear sturdy, closed-toe footwear and long pants. Large bags and personal items should be left in secured vehicles. Attendees will be asked to sign in, and a parent or guardian must accompany and be responsible for children under 18 years of age.

Since acquiring Exeter Township's wastewater system in 2019, Pennsylvania American Water has invested more than $32 million in the upgrades to the system. Additional investments of approximately $67 million are planned over the next five years. The system includes the Exeter wastewater treatment plant and 132.7 miles of mains. It serves approximately 15,000 residents in Exeter and Lower Alsace townships and Mount Penn Borough.
