Baldwin County Commission Awarded $2,530,000 in GOMESA Funds for renovation of Perdido Bay Park in Lillian

On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Governor Kay Ivey announced Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) funding of over $45 million for 23 projects in Coastal Alabama.

The Baldwin County Commission was awarded $2,530,000 in GOMESA funds for renovations and additional amenities to Perdido Bay Park which is located on County Rd 99 in Lillian overlooking Perdido Bay.

The Perdido Bay Park renovation will provide key infrastructure to ensure full accessibility and usability for all visitors, including the construction of ADA-compliant parking spaces, sidewalks, boardwalks, gazebo, and a viewing platform overlooking Perdido Bay. Current erosion issues within the park will be addressed through slope stabilization measures and the new boardwalk will be designed to complement the unique and scenic bluffs descending to Perdido Bay. Additionally, lighting enhancements will be incorporated into the project ensuring year-round safety and convenience of visitors.

Design of the project is expected to progress through 2026 after procurement of contracts with construction expected to begin in early 2027.

The Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) of 2006 created a revenue-sharing model for oil- and gas-producing gulf states. Under the act, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas receive a portion of the revenue generated from oil and gas production offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. The act also directs a portion of revenue to the Land and Water Conservation Fund.
