Contec Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Nishi-yodogawa-ku, Osaka; President: Kazuyoshi Nishiyama, hereinafter "Contec") is pleased to announce that it has obtained certification to IEC 62443-4-1, the international cybersecurity standard for Industrial Automation and Control Systems (IACS).

IEC 62443 is a series of international cybersecurity standards for industrial systems developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the International Society of Automation (ISA). Among the standards in this series, IEC 62443-4-1 specifies requirements for establishing and operating a Secure Development Lifecycle (SDL) that incorporates cybersecurity considerations throughout the entire product lifecycle, including planning, design, development, verification, maintenance, and vulnerability management.

In recent years, cyber threats targeting industrial equipment used in factories, logistics facilities, social infrastructure, healthcare, and energy sectors have continued to increase. As a result, the concept of Security by Design, which integrates security considerations from the earliest stages of product development, has become increasingly important. IEC 62443-4-1 is being widely adopted worldwide as a key framework for implementing this approach.
Through this certification, an independent third-party organization has verified that Contec has established and operates development processes aligned with international standards in the following areas:

  • Security management
  • Security requirements definition
  • Secure design and implementation
  • Security verification and validation
  • Vulnerability management and security update management
  • Development of security guidelines for users

Based on this certification, Contec will continue to enhance the cybersecurity quality of its products, including industrial computers, IoT gateways, networking products, and measurement and control devices, by applying internationally recognized secure development practices.

This certification also represents an important step toward strengthening compliance with the European Union Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), which entered into force in 2024. The CRA requires manufacturers of digital products to implement measures such as Security by Design, vulnerability management, and the provision of security updates. IEC 62443-4-1 is widely recognized as one of the key international standards that supports the implementation of these cybersecurity requirements.

Contec will continue to address product cybersecurity requirements demanded by the global market and remain committed to providing products and services that customers can use with confidence.
