Grassley Welcomes Over $90 Million for Health Care Workforce, Medical Equipment and Cancer Care in Iowa

Funding comes from Republicans' Working Families Tax Cuts Law

WASHINGTON - Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), a senior member and former chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, welcomed news that Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds will disburse over $90 million from the Rural Health Transformation Fund (RHTF) to rural healthcare providers in Iowa to support workforce recruitment and retention, medical equipment and cancer care. The RHTF was passed as part of the Working Families Tax Cuts Act.

"Republicans' Working Families Tax Cuts law delivered the largest investment in rural healthcare in American history. Today, I'm glad to see more of this money flowing to Iowa communities to support healthcare workforce recruitment and retention, along with strategic investments in cancer care and medical equipment. Under Republican leadership, Iowa is leading the nation in distributing this federal funding. I look forward to even more communities benefiting from this historic investment in rural healthcare in the years ahead," Grassley said.

Background:
The Working Family Tax Cuts law, backed by Grassley and signed into law last July, included a $50 billion Rural Health Transformation Fund to ensure hospitals, nursing homes, community health clinics and other rural providers can continue serving their communities and improve care. Grassley joined Iowa's congressional delegation to support Iowa's application, called "Healthy Hometowns," which sought $1 billion in federal funding over the next five years.?Iowa was awarded $209 million for 2026 from the fund.

Grassley has repeatedly highlighted the fund's investments in Iowa in speeches on the Senate floor. At his 99 county meetings this year, Grassley has seen the firsthand benefits of this funding, including at his visits to hospitals in Adams, Cerro Gordo, Fayette, Hamilton, Lucas, Marion and Mahaska counties.

In May, Grassley published an op-ed in the Cedar Rapids Gazette detailing how the RHTF is improving access to care in Iowa.
