Independent validation under the Science Based Targets Network
Coca-Cola HBC has become the first Coca-Cola bottler to have its nature assessment and prioritisation work independently validated under the Science Based Targets Network (SBTN) framework.
The validation by the Accountability Accelerator confirms that Coca-Cola HBC has completed Steps 1 and 2 of the SBTN process. This assesses its nature-related impacts and identifies priority areas for action using a science-based methodology.

Water identified as Coca-Cola HBC's most material nature-related impact
SBTN provides guidance and rigorous scientific methods for companies to identify, assess, prioritise, measure and set targets for their impacts on nature. Importantly, it creates a credible bridge between an organisation's biodiversity and nature ambitions and specific, measurable, science-based targets and actions. A key outcome of the assessment identifies water as Coca-Cola HBC's most material nature-related impact within its direct operations. This reinforces the importance of the company's long-standing water stewardship work and helps focus future action where it can make the greatest difference. Coca-Cola HBC already runs water stewardship projects in all its identified high-priority water risk areas and remains committed to managing water responsibly as part of its sustainability strategy.
We are pleased to have our assessment and prioritisation work in the area of nature and biodiversity validated by the Accountability Accelerator. This demonstrates that our approach follows the Science Based Targets Network's science-based methodology. The assessment confirms water as our most material nature-related impact within our direct operations, reinforcing the importance of our water stewardship agenda and the initiatives already underway across our markets. This validation is an important milestone in our nature journey, providing a strong foundation as we continue to advance our biodiversity and water commitments under Mission Refresh.

The validation relates to Coca-Cola HBC's assessment and prioritisation work under Steps 1 and 2 of the SBTN process. It provides a stronger evidence base for future action, including the company's continued work on water stewardship and its next steps on nature under Mission Refresh.
What is the Science Based Targets Network?
The Science Based Targets Network is a science-led initiative that helps companies assess their impacts on nature, identify priority areas for action and set science-based targets for nature. Assessments and targets are independently validated through the Accountability Accelerator.
