EEI ANNOUNCES NV ENERGY AS EMERGENCY RESPONSE AWARD RECIPIENT

EEI ANNOUNCES NV ENERGY AS EMERGENCY RESPONSE AWARD RECIPIENT

Sep 10, 2025 12:20 PM

Today, NV Energy was announced as an Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Emergency Response Award recipient recognizing the company's response to the Davis Fire in 2024.

Presented to EEI member companies twice a year, the Emergency Response Awards recognize recovery and assistance efforts of electric companies following service disruptions caused by extreme weather or other natural events. The winners were chosen by a panel of judges following an international nomination process. The awards were presented during EEI's Fall Board of Directors and Chief Executives Meeting.

"America's electric companies and their dedicated workforces work tirelessly throughout the year to strengthen the energy grid and to restore power-and peace of mind-for American families and businesses after extreme weather events and natural disasters," said EEI President and CEO Drew Maloney. "EEI is proud to recognize NV Energy for its extraordinary response efforts following the Davis Fire. This recovery award reflects NV Energy and its emergency response team's incredible commitment to the customers and communities they serve."

"This award honors the dedication, coordination and resilience of our teams in the face of extreme conditions and I'm grateful to EEI for their recognition," said NV Energy President and CEO Brandon Barkhuff. "Ours teams work year round through our Power Safe NV program to reduce the risk that extreme weather events present, while ensuring we're always ready to respond on behalf of our communities in the face of disasters."

The Davis Fire began on September 7, 2024, in the southwest Reno area and quickly spread into the Mt. Rose region, ultimately burning 5,824 acres, destroying 14 homes and 3 commercial buildings, and prompting the evacuation of approximately 20,000 residents. In coordination with fire agencies, NV Energy implemented its largest-ever emergency de-energization, impacting nearly 19,000 customers at its peak, to prevent utility-related ignitions.

NV Energy's response was guided by its emergency preparedness plans and a newly implemented de-energization policy developed in collaboration with local fire agencies earlier in the year. The company's Incident Management Team (IMT), leadership, and field crews worked around the clock to assess damage, coordinate with fire officials, and restore power safely and efficiently.

Despite the complexity of the incident, including the transition to a federal Type I Incident Management Team unfamiliar with NV Energy's protocols-the company provided real-time education and support to ensure safe coordination. Power was restored to 80 percent of affected customers by September 9, and full restoration was completed by September 15, once conditions allowed.

NV Energy maintained continuous communication with customers, emergency responders, and elected officials throughout the event. The company's proactive outreach and transparency helped keep the community informed and reassured during a time of uncertainty.

The Davis Fire impacted not only NV Energy customers but also many of the company's own employees. Some responders were personally affected by evacuations and property threats yet continued to serve their community with dedication and professionalism. NV Energy activated its Crisis Fund to support employees facing hardship, reinforcing their commitment to the well-being of its workforce.

NV Energy's actions during the Davis Fire reflect its deep ties to the community and its unwavering focus on safety, service, and resilience. The company is honored to receive the EEI Emergency Response Award and remains committed to protecting Nevada's energy infrastructure and the people who depend on it.
