The Organization of American States and Yonsei University of Korea Join Forces to Promote Women's Rights

June 30, 2026

The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS-GS), through the Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Commission of Women (ES/CIM), and Yonsei University of the Republic of Korea today agreed to advance joint initiatives in research, training, and outreach to promote women's rights, cybersecurity, and digital governance during a ceremony held at the headquarters of the hemispheric institution in Washington, D.C.

OAS Secretary General Albert R. Ramdin highlighted that the agreement emphasizes the inclusion of women's rights in digital transformation, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. "This is essential because if women and girls cannot safely access and fully participate in digital environments, the transformative promise of technology cannot be fully realized," Secretary General Ramdin said.

For his part, Yonsei University Dean Jung-Hoon Lee said that the agreement with the OAS General Secretariat "will open a new chapter in preparing young people from around the world-not only from Korea-to address emerging global challenges related to the fragility of democratic systems, human rights, inclusive development, digital transformation, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, climate change, and gender equality."

The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation to strengthen information exchange and academic collaboration between the OAS General Secretariat and Yonsei University's Graduate School of International Studies. Under the agreement, Yonsei University will promote awareness among its academic community of the OAS General Secretariat's objectives, activities, volunteer programs, and internship opportunities. The OAS General Secretariat, through the Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Commission of Women, will facilitate access to its documentation and publications, invite representatives of Yonsei University to public meetings of the Organization's bodies, and collaborate with the University in the design of joint initiatives on research, public policy analysis, training, communications, and outreach in areas of common interest.
