Norton Rose Fulbright wins Impact Case of the Year at the International Tax Review Awards 2026

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has been awarded Impact Case of the Year at the 22nd Annual International Tax Review (ITR) Europe Tax Awards 2026 for its role in Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) v Commissioners for His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) UKSC 2, one of the most significant tax disputes considered by the UK Supreme Court in recent years.

The International Tax Review Awards celebrates excellence across the tax profession, recognising leading law firms, advisory practices and in-house teams.

The long-running case has become one of the leading cases on double tax treaty interpretation and the OECD commentary and as such been cited in a number of cases since. It raised complex areas of both English and Canadian domestic tax and non-tax law.

Dominic Stuttaford, Global Head of Tax at Norton Rose Fulbright, commented:

"Winning Impact Case of the Year is a fantastic achievement for our team. Royal Bank of Canada v HMRC was a significant case that addressed important issues of international tax law, and this recognition reflects the dedication, experience and collaboration (with RBC and the wider team) shown throughout the matter. We are very grateful to the trust shown to us by RBC in bringing it to a successful conclusion"

The award was announced at the ITR Europe Tax Awards 2026, held on 17 September 2026 at The Londoner, Leicester Square, London.
