KABB Fox 29 News spoke with Trinity University's Austin Bussing, Ph.D. , a political science assistant professor and expert on Congress and congressional ethics, about allegations of an inappropriate relationship involving U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales and Regina Santos-Aviles, which was casting a shadow over the Republican primary race in Texas' 23rd Congressional District.
Bussing noted that any potential House ethics investigation would be conducted in secret, could take years to complete, and would result in significant consequences. He said, "The greatest, most extreme punishment the House could exact is expulsion from the chamber, which requires a two-thirds super majority in the chamber, which I think is very unlikely."
