Secretary-General of ASEAN delivers pre-recorded remarks at the UK-ASEAN Renewable Energy and Interconnection Symposium

Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, delivered pre-recorded remarks at the UK-ASEAN Renewable Energy and Interconnection Symposium, held in Jakarta, on 29 July 2026. In his remarks, Dr. Kao highlighted the growing ASEAN-UK partnership in supporting ASEAN's energy transition through the Clean and Just Energy Transition Pillar under the ASEAN-UK Green Transition Fund (GTF). He also underscored ASEAN's energy ambitions under the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2026-2030 and emphasised the importance of strengthening regional connectivity and mobilising investment through initiatives such as the ASEAN Power Grid Financing Initiative (APGF) and the Platform for ASEAN Connectivity and Energy (PACE). Recognising the United Kingdom's expertise in offshore transmission, submarine power cable systems, electricity market design, project development, and sustainable finance, he encouraged participants to forge new partnerships and identify concrete actions to accelerate the implementation of the ASEAN Power Grid for a more connected, sustainable, and prosperous ASEAN.
