All lanes on Main Street in The CORE District's downtown neighborhood are now open during peak traffic times as the Main Street Reconstruction Project moves closer to completion.
Crews have completed striping work and are now finishing remaining sidewalk, landscaping and related infrastructure improvements. Temporary lane closures will still be needed throughout July for some waterline work, but those closures are expected to take place during off-peak hours, from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
The Main Street Reconstruction Project is a multi-phase effort designed to improve mobility, safety, infrastructure, and the overall streetscape in Richardson's historic downtown area. The project includes paving improvements, water, sewer and storm drainage upgrades, accessibility enhancements, new trees and landscaping, hardscape features, and upgraded streetlights.
Nearby, work also continues on the final phase of the City's Arterial and Collector Street Rehabilitation Program on Main Street between Grove Road and Walton Street, just east of downtown. The program is an ongoing initiative to repair, upgrade and extend the life of major roadways throughout the community by replacing worn sections of concrete.
At least one lane will remain open in each direction while that work is underway. Additional off-peak lane closures are expected during July, and all lanes in the area are expected to be fully open in August.
