If you want to find out what's going on in the world today, a newscast from 2023 would be a poor choice. In the same vein, trying to comply with the Nacha Rules by using a three-year-old book isn't a good idea. What is a good idea is getting hold of the 12th Edition of the ACH Compliance Manual.
"In order to be compliant, you really have to have this latest edition because it is going to include any updates since the last edition with respect to the Nacha Operating Rules," said Danita Tyrrell, Senior Director, ACH Network Rules Development and Technical Support.
"We have had several Rules changes since that time-and critical Rules changes, too," Tyrrell said, pointing specifically to fraud monitoring Rules which took effect earlier this year.
Speaking on Nacha's Payments SmartCast podcast, Tyrrell said the ACH Compliance Manual is "an excellent resource for all payments professionals" that's "set up more by topic, more by exercise." She called it "a super companion for you to get laser-focused on a particular process without having to search and pull together all the different pieces from the Rules and Guidelines."
To Chris Richards, Chief Banking Officer at The Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank, the ACH Compliance Manual is "a really valuable tool that I not only refer to on a regular basis, but I've used to help formulate our policy." And that's important, given how crucial the bank's policies are.
"We have to be able to defend the policy to our examiners and auditors," said Richards. "Using these materials, we really don't encounter any issues with items that are missing or gaps in our policy."
Much more was discussed, and you can listen to the complete podcast below.
The 12th Edition of the ACH Compliance Manual is available in the Nacha Store as well as from the Payments Associations.
