Senator Durazo Commemorates One-Year Anniversary of the Eaton and Palisades Fires

January 7, 2026

LOS ANGELES - Senator María Elena Durazo (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement commemorating the one-year anniversary of the Eaton and Palisades Fires today:

"One year ago, devastating fires swept through our communities, taking lives and destroying thousands of homes across Altadena, Pacific Palisades, Malibu, and beyond.

Today, we remember those we lost. We honor our first responders who risked everything and the everyday Angelenos who stepped up to support their neighbors in crisis. And we stand with survivors who are still rebuilding their lives.

While we've made progress in recovery efforts, too many families remain displaced and are still fighting with insurance companies and navigating complex bureaucratic systems. We cannot forget the immigrant workers who lost their jobs when these areas burned - workers who lack access to the same safety net, yet who we have depended on to help with cleanup and rebuilding efforts.

The work of recovery continues. I remain committed to securing the resources our region needs, strengthening our emergency response systems, and addressing the climate crisis that threatens us all.

Los Angeles is strong because of its people. We will continue to rebuild together."
