Maine Dept. of Labor & Maine Labor Group on Health to Commemorate Workers Memorial Day Tuesday

In 2025, 19 people died in Maine due to workplace injuries or illnesses that resulted from their work. Two more Mainers died while working out of state. A public remembrance will be held April 28, at 12:15 p.m. on the North Lawn of the State House in Augusta.

MAINE - April 28 is nationally recognized as Workers Memorial Day, a day to remember those who have died on, or as a result of, their job.

The Maine Department of Labor and Maine Labor Group on Health will hold a remembrance for the Maine workers who died in 2025 on Tuesday, April 28, at 12:15 p.m. on the North Lawn of the State House in Augusta.

The press and public are welcome.

The event will include remarks from:

  • Patrick Wynne - President of the Central Maine Labor Council

  • Mark Brunton - President of MSEA-SEIU

  • Laura Fortman - Commissioner of the Maine Department of Labor

  • Kate Burkhart - Director of the Maine Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Standards

  • Peter Crockett - Maine Labor Group on Health
