Chinese Ambassador to The Bahamas Yan Jiarong Pays a Courtesy Call on Prime Minister Philip Davis Following His Reelection

On 28 May 2026, Her Excellency Yan Jiarong, Chinese Ambassador to The Bahamas, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Philip Davis at the Prime Minister's Office, after he won the general election and was sworn in for a new term.

Ambassador Yan conveyed greetings from Chinese leaders to Prime Minister Davis and handed over a congratulatory message from Chinese Premier Li Qiang. The current sound momentum of China-Bahamas relations is commended and the Chinese Ambassador expressed readiness to strengthen alignment of development strategies, enhance political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges, so as to deliver more tangible outcomes for bilateral relations.

Prime Minister Davis expressed his appreciation for the congratulatory message and extended his best wishes to the Chinese leadership and people. He emphasized that mutual respect and mutually beneficial cooperation constitute the cornerstone of Bahamas-China friendship. He appreciated China's support in improving Bahamian people's well-being, enhancing economic resilience, and accelerating sustainable development. He reassured that he will work with China during his second term to elevate bilateral relations to new heights.

The Bahamas held its general election on May 12, in which the ruling Progressive Liberal Party secured victory. Incumbent Prime Minister Philip Davis became the first Bahamian Prime Minister since 1997 to win reelection.
