DeSoto Police Launches Flock Safety Transparency Portal

The technology supports criminal investigations and public safety efforts by capturing vehicle-related information in areas where the cameras are located. According to the portal, the cameras' most common uses include searches related to missing or endangered persons, stolen vehicles, burglaries, wanted persons or fugitives, and drug and narcotics offenses.

The portal allows residents to review system-usage information, learn about the policies and safeguards governing the technology, and explore a Myth vs. Fact section addressing common questions about Flock cameras.

The system may also provide real-time alerts when a vehicle associated with an authorized law-enforcement hotlist is detected. Officers are expected to independently verify the information and evaluate the circumstances before taking enforcement action.

Access to the system is restricted to authorized personnel and is subject to Department policy, training, auditing and supervisory oversight. The technology is not intended for general surveillance or for personal, political, immigration-enforcement or other unauthorized purposes.

The transparency portal is part of the City of DeSoto and DeSoto Police Department's continued commitment to accountability and responsible use of public-safety technology.
