During the meeting, an agreement on political consultations was signed to foster contacts between the two countries
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, held a meeting this Thursday 16 July with Gabon's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Marie-Édith Tassyla-Ye-Doumbeneny, during which they discussed the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries.
Albares, who received the Gabonese minister at the Palacio de Viana, took the opportunity to deepen bilateral relations with the country, as reflected in the signing of an agreement on political consultations aimed at institutionalising and strengthening high-level contacts between the two countries. The areas for consultation identified include political, economic, cultural and consular matters. They also discussed international and regional issues.
The close bilateral relationship holds clear potential in areas such as the green transition, infrastructure, renewable energy and the teaching of Spanish. Gabon ranks fifth among Sub-Saharan African countries in terms of the number of students learning the language.
The Spanish Minister has offered his congratulations on the success of the political transition in Gabon and has highlighted the Spain-Africa Strategy 2025-2028 as "a key instrument aimed at moving beyond the traditional donor-recipient relationship and building a new relationship with our African partners based on respect and mutual benefit".
