Two new Idaho Commission on the Arts fellows have Boise State ties

The Idaho Commission on the Arts has announced the recipients of the 2026 Literature and Performing and Media Arts Fellowships. Awarded every two years, the fellowships honor work of the highest artistic merit, as determined through an anonymous peer review by an out-of-state panel. Each artist will receive $5,000.

Roland Becerra and Joel Wayne, who received fellowships in performing and media arts, have ties to Boise State.

Becerra is a filmmaker and an associate professor in the School of Design and Visual Studies. The commission's press release noted his animated feature, "AGATHA," a modern folktale. Becerra earned his BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from Yale University, with additional studies at The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and The Cleveland Institute of Art. This is his first fellowship.

Wayne is a writer, podcast creator, and public programs manager at The Cabin. He received this, his second fellowship, based on "Charlie," a 16-episode audio series. Wayne holds a BA from the University of Montana and an MFA from Boise State.
