Parent PLUS Loan Borrowers: Act by April 1 for IDR Plans

Published
March 30, 2026

Changes to Federal law will impact repayment plans for student loan borrowers. Due to these changes, Parent PLUS loan borrowers will no longer have access to income-driven repayment (IDR) plans unless they consolidate their loan(s) into a new Direct Consolidation Loan.

If you have Parent PLUS loans and want access to more affordable monthly payments, you may apply to consolidate your Parent PLUS loans into a new Direct Consolidation Loan before April 1, 2026.

For more information, visit the National Consumer Law Center's website for detailed information regarding the changes and steps you should take: Get help with Parent PLUS loan repayment options.

If you have additional questions or a complaint, please contact the Washington Student Achievement Council Office of Student Loan Advocacy via their Student Complaint Portal or DFI at File a Complaint with the Washington State DFI.
