Posthumous National Gold Award Honors Lucas Colombo’s ’27 Creative Legacy at SUA

Recently, we celebrated the vision and voice of beloved Soka student and Media Office student employee Lucas Colombo '27, who passed away earlier this year. Lucas was a talented filmmaker, playing a key role in creating some of the most shared and celebrated videos ever posted on SUA's social media accounts.

During a weeklong video series, we republished some of our favorite "Only at Soka" videos that Lucas, Jun Sawada '26, and Giulia Paié Pinto '23 worked on together, culminating at the end of the week with a never-before-seen video starring Lucas.

Not long after concluding this tribute series, we received news that Lucas' 24-Hour Study Room ASMR video, which he created with Sawada, won a Gold Award in the annual Education Digital Marketing Awards, a competition that recognizes excellence in educational websites, digital content, and social media. Their award-winning video offers a playful twist on the familiar ASMR trend and captures the qualities that made Lucas' work so special: warm humor, thoughtful storytelling, and a genuine love for the Soka community.

We are grateful to Lucas's family and friends for helping us share this series. We hope these videos inspire viewers to embody the compassion, creativity, and determination that Lucas brought to SUA every day.
