First Friday at Capitol Modern: An Evening of Poetry, Art and Performance

Brandy Nālani McDougall, Hawai'i State Poet Laureate for 2023-2025

Capitol Modern will host its First Friday event on Friday, December 5, 2025, from 5:00-9:00 PM, offering a free, all-ages evening of art, music, poetry, and live performance. Visitors can explore the museum's galleries and Sculpture Garden while connecting with local artists and fellow art lovers.

The evening will feature an end-of-term celebration for Hawai'i State Poet Laureate Dr. Brandy Nālani McDougall, live taiko music by the Kenny Endo Ensemble, and the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa's "Dancing in the Diaspora" showcase-an original Filipino cultural production blending hip-hop, Indigenous forms, contemporary dance, and 'Ori Tahiti with live kulintang and Tahitian music. There will also be an Art+Flea urban market pop-up featuring local artists and food and drink vendors.
