O’Hare Named #1 Most Connected Airport In The United States

CHICAGO- Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Chicago Department of Aviation today announced that O'Hare International Airport has been ranked the #1 most connected airport in the United States in the 2025 Official Aviation Guide (OAG) Megahubs Index. On the busiest travel day of the year, O'Hare offered potential connections to 214 domestic destinations-more than any other U.S. airport.

Globally, O'Hare advanced two spots from last year to secure the #7 ranking worldwide, while Midway International Airport once again landed in the nation's top tier, placing #22-just behind New York's John F. Kennedy Airport.

"The strength of Chicago's aviation market isn't just a point of pride, it's a competitive advantage for our city and our region," said Mayor Brandon Johnson. "Being named the best-connected airport in the nation means Chicagoans have more choices, airlines have more opportunities, and our city continues to stand out as a premier global hub for business and tourism."

"Chicago is second to none in American aviation, and this ranking proves that our sustained investments in both O'Hare and Midway are paying off," said Commissioner Michael McMurray of the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA). "From modernizing terminals to expanding capacity, we are building the infrastructure that will keep Chicago competitive for the next decade and beyond. I thank our airline partners for continuing to choose O'Hare and Midway as their midcontinent hubs and for helping us connect people, goods, and ideas from Chicago to the world."

The newly released rankings measure the number of potential flight connections available to travelers, underscoring the vital role O'Hare and Midway play as gateways to final destinations. Chicago's central location and extensive air service make it a magnet for more than 100 million passengers each year, reinforcing the city's position as a powerhouse of global commerce and travel.

The news comes as O'Hare continues to post some of its strongest passenger volumes ever, welcoming more than 8.26 million travelers in July 2025-its busiest month in history.
