The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, ended his first day in New York by receiving the Global Goalkeeper Award, presented each year by the Gates Foundation to leaders who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.
The President of the Government of Spain has been honoured this year in recognition of his leadership in promoting increased official development assistance, the prioritisation of child survival on the global agenda, and his firm support for multilateralism and his commitment to inclusive development.
During the event, Pedro Sánchez and Bill Gates took part in a conversation in which they pointed out that investing in cooperation is key to achieving a more prosperous and egalitarian world, and at the same time a safer and more stable one, as well as highlighting the impact of climate change on health.

The President underlined that Spain, in the face of the withdrawal of funds from other donors, is reinforcing its economic contributions in the field of global health, and stressed the importance of predictable and early contributions from states in order to strengthen international cooperation mechanisms.
