On 30 April, the EEA Joint Committee adopted 46 Joint Committee Decisions, incorporating 69 legal acts into the EEA Agreement.
Norwegian Ambassador Anders H. Eide, speaking as EFTA Chair, underlined the good progress in the field of financial services, transport and statistics, where several acts were being incorporated into the EEA Agreement. Of those acts, he highlighted Regulation (EU) 2022/2036 - also known as the Daisy Chain Regulation - which amends existing banking rules to strengthen the resolvability of large banking groups, in particular globally systemic banks.
The Chair then presented two EEA EFTA Comments submitted to the EU side in April: on the Critical Medicines Act and EU Space Act proposal.
The EEA EFTA States welcomed the Commission's proposal for a Critical Medicines Act, and underlined the importance of ensuring stable and predictable access to essential medicines across the Internal Market.
"To preserve a well-functioning Internal Market, strengthening Europe's security of supply must benefit the entire EEA, including small and geographically remote areas," emphasised Ambassador Eide.
The Comment on the EU Space Act proposal supports the aim of strengthening the safety, resilience and sustainability of space activities in the Internal Market.
"The EEA EFTA States and the EU share strong common interests the space sector. We are committed to continuing and deepening this cooperation, which is crucial to strengthening Europe's strategic position," underlined Ambassador Eide.
The EU and EEA EFTA delegations also held the second of their tri-monthly consultations on safeguard measures with regard to imports of certain ferro-alloying elements.
The next EEA Joint Committee meeting will take place on 5 June.
