South University Staff Member Named Veteran of the Year

Jennifer Rothwell, Inquiry Process Manager for South University, was recently awarded Veteran of the Year by VFW Post 9199. This award was presented by State Senator Lyndsey Williams for Rothwell's effort to bring The Wall That Heals® to the Pittsburgh area. The Wall That Heals® is a scaled-down, mobile version of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C. The last time the memorial was in Pittsburgh was in 2019. She is the first woman to receive this prestigious award.

Rothwell has been with South University since December of 2006 and served in the Army from 1992 to 2008. While in the Army, she served as a nurse in Operation Enduring Freedom, as well as working overseas in a hospital in Kosovo for an 18-month deployment. Jennifer is currently the manager of the Inquiry Process team and works with everything related to students wanting to attend school at South University. Additionally, she is currently the Quartermaster for VFW Post 9199 located in the Pittsburgh area. She has served as the Quartermaster for fifteen years and has served as the Treasurer for six months.

While working as the IP Manager for South University, Rothwell also spends her time participating in events for veterans. She sends care packages to soldiers serving overseas, volunteers monthly at the Southwestern Veterans Center, and participates in community events to advocate for veterans. "Whether you are currently serving in the military or you are now a veteran of the military, education is very important! In the military, I learned so much! Outside of the military, I was lucky to find a home at South University. Education is key to opening doors for career advancement and financial stability."
