Lummis Introduces Legislation to Celebrate the United States’ 250th Birthday

September 30, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) led Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), and Alex Padilla (D-CA) in introducing the $2.50 for America's 250th Act to commemorate the upcoming 250thanniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The legislation requires the Secretary of Treasury to mint and issue $2.50 numismatic coins and $2.50 circulating coins. Rep. Robert Aderholt (AL-04) introduced companion legislation in the House.

"As America's 250th birthday approaches, my legislation revives a 100-year-old tradition that celebrates our founding principles and joins a new generation of Americans with those who celebrated our nation's founding 100 years ago," said Lummis. "I am proud to work with my colleagues in both the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives to celebrate the values we hold so dear and create a lasting tribute families can treasure for generations."
