Public Invited to Amateur Radio Field Day June 27-28

The public is invited to join the Five Flags Amateur Radio Association for the 2026 American Radio Relay League Field Day on Saturday, June 27, and Sunday, June 28, which is part of a series of events throughout North America to highlight and demonstrate ham radio operations.

Escambia County's ARRL Field Day will take place at Escambia County Public Safety, located at 6575 N. "W" St. Members of the public are welcome to attend and observe the field day demonstrations by local ham radio operators and learn more about amateur radio and emergency communications. Attendees will also have an opportunity to get on the radio and talk to other radio operators.

The public is welcome to attend and observe anytime during the ARRL Field Day:

  • Saturday, June 27 at 6 a.m. - Setup begins
  • Saturday, June 27 at 1 p.m. - Radio operations begin, running continuously for 24 hours until 1 p.m. Sunday, June 28
  • Sunday, June 28 at 1 p.m. - Breakdown begins, ending at approximately 4 p.m.

ARRL Field Day is an exercise and contest for North American ham radio operators to go to non-permanent amateur radio locations and set up an emergency operational site. The goal is to meet as many ham radio operators, also known as amateur radio operators, from around the world as possible and to pass messages to selected regional ham radio authorities.

ARRL Field Day is the most popular on-the-air event held annually in the U.S. and Canada. On the fourth weekend of June, more than 31,000 radio amateurs gather with their clubs, groups or simply with friends to operate from remote locations. ARRL Field Day aims to demonstrate to the public the capabilities of Amateur Radio Emergency Services, especially their ability to establish emergency communications without outside assistance.

"I'd like to thank the Five Flags Amateur Radio Association for their continued dedication to amateur radio operations, and for taking the time to share their expertise with the public through this annual community event," District 5 Commissioner Steven Barry said. "We are excited to welcome our amateur radio friends to Escambia County Public Safety for their annual field day, and I encourage the public to come learn more about the important service they provide to the community."
