UF/IFAS Extension Announces Upcoming Programs

Looking to manage debt, buy your first home, or pick up some pesticide CEUs? The UF/IFAS Extension Volusia County has you covered with hands-on programs for all ages.

How to Manage Debt: noon to 1 p.m. and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4. These identical online classes will cover debt management strategies and options for collections. First-time Homebuyer Classes: 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Aug. 11 and 18. Extension Agent Lisa Hamilton will instruct this two-part online class, which consists of eight hours of education. Participants will receive a certificate of completion that will enable them to apply for a federal down payment and closing cost assistance program available through Volusia County and the City of Deltona. A Spanish-language class will be offered from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20. The cost is $10 per household. Register at https://homebuyered.eventbrite.com. Home Maintenance Course: 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17. This monthly online program covers financial and home maintenance practices. Topics include healthy home maintenance, homeowners insurance, energy efficiency, water conservation, integrated pest management, and disaster preparedness. Additional programs will be held on Sept. 21, Oct. 26, Nov. 16 and Dec. 14. These programs are offered without charge. Register at https://homemaintenance.eventbrite.com. Florida Society of Ecotourism Webinar - Tides and Waves for Outdoor Adventures: 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19. Presented by Florida SEE and UF/IFAS Extension, this is the first in the 2026 monthly webinar series held on the third Wednesday of each month. Speakers will include specialists from around the state. Topics will cover Florida wildlife, ecosystems, and best practices for enjoying nature safely. This online program, which is offered without charge, is open to ecotourism providers and all Florida adventurers. Pesticide CEU Day: 8 a.m. to 2:05 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at the UF/IFAS Extension Volusia County, 3100 E. New York Ave, DeLand. Get the latest information on pesticide use and safety in aquatic, natural areas, or right-of-way habitats. The fee is $76.54. Register at https://tinyurl.com/CEU-Day.

Dairy and Meat Goat Showmanship Workshop: 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, at 2552 Tomoka Farms Road, Port Orange. Youth exhibitors ages 8 to 18 can learn all the tips and tricks to goat showmanship. Bring your goat. Kristen Bowers and BJ Carbino will go over grooming, show ring etiquette, and animal handling. Youth under age 13 must have a parent or guardian present for the workshop, which is offered without charge.
