SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV -
Dr. Scott W.H. Barton will step down from his role as vice president for finance and administration at Shepherd University, effective March 2, 2026.
Barton has accepted a position as vice president of finance at Arcadia University, a private university in Pennsylvania.
"Serving at Shepherd University has been an honor," Barton said. "I am grateful to have played a role in supporting the institution."
Barton came to Shepherd University in fall 2022, a time when colleges and universities across the country were dealing with the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We had some work to do financially," Barton recalled. "But we had a good team and a committed Board of Governors who helped everyone as we got back on track. I am proud of the work we did to get Shepherd to this point of financial stability."
In addition to providing leadership on the implementation of a new campus information technology upgrade, Barton played a key role in acquiring state and federal funds for numerous capital improvement and deferred maintenance projects across campus, including the new dining hall and athletics facility.
Shepherd University President Dr. Mary J.C. Hendrix said he has been a tremendous asset to Shepherd.
"Dr. Barton's talent and commitment have profoundly benefited our students, faculty, staff, and community," Hendrix said. "I am most grateful for his tireless efforts to move Shepherd forward with Information Technology upgrades, major new building projects, implementation of deferred maintenance initiatives, improvement of campus roads, sidewalks, and parking lots, together with building teams to ensure financial stability for the institution. Shepherd is a better place because of Dr. Barton's remarkable contributions, and I know he will do great things for Arcadia."
Before coming to Shepherd, Barton served as senior vice president of administration and finance at Shippensburg University, part of Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education.
He also worked at Mansfield University as vice president of finance and administration before being named interim president of the university.
Barton holds an Ed.D. from the University of New England, a Master of Business Administration from Regis University, and a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from Florida Atlantic University.
