The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions (Eurofound) is a tripartite European Union Agency, whose role is to provide knowledge in the area of social and work-related policies. Eurofound is in charge of conducting the studies on the representativeness of the European social partners.
In a new study Representativeness of the European social partner organisations: Railway sector, Eurofound highlights the valuable contribution of the Sectoral Social Dialogue to the rail sector. The study describes the Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee for Railways as "one of the most active and productive committees", having produced around 60 joint texts.
Key actions of the Social Dialogue include advancing gender equality through the Women in Rail initiative, addressing skills shortages in the sector, promoting a safer environment for workers and customers and improving working conditions.
One of its notable achievements is the European Social Partner Agreement on Women in Rail, signed by CER and ETF in 2021, to promote gender equality across the sector.
The EU study also identifies CER as the railway sector's most representative European employers' organisation, bringing together long-established bodies, new entrants and both private and public enterprises.
