Firefighters from departments throughout California recently gathered to participate in advanced rescue training led by Training Captain Jimmy Alvarez and his instructional team at the training tower located at Station 52.
The hands-on training focuses on forcible entry techniques for a variety of residential and commercial doors, including both inward- and outward-swinging doors. Participants practice the latest methods for quickly and safely gaining access to structures during emergency incidents.
The department's training tower is configured to simulate realistic search and rescue scenarios, emphasizing a "victims first" approach. The objective is to locate and remove victims from Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health (IDLH) environments as quickly as possible while maintaining firefighter safety.
In addition to victim rescue techniques, firefighters receive instruction on self-rescue skills, ensuring they are prepared to respond effectively should they encounter an emergency while operating inside a hazardous environment.
