Philadelphia 76ers @ New York Knicks - Oct 20

The New York Knicks haven't been the best team in the NBA since 1971. That is, until now.

On opening night of the 2026-2027 NBA season, all eyes will be on the defending champs as they face the Philadelphia 76ers and LeBron James in his debut with the team.

Swept by the soon-to-be champion Knicks in the Eastern Conference Semifinals last season, the 76ers have their work cut out, integrating a new cast of stars. This new-look group will have to work through the growing pains and model LeBron's on-court IQ for a successful start against the Knicks.

Golden State Warriors @ Los Angeles Lakers - Oct 21

For the second straight season, the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers will open their season against one another. Always a marquee matchup, it's now a battle of the new guard against the old guard.

After losing a pivotal player in LeBron James, the new-look Lakers have begun rebuilding around a different centerpiece: Luka Dončić. After re-signing Austin Reaves and adding eight veterans, it will be an almost entirely different Lakers team.

Meanwhile, the Warriors enter this NBA season with essentially the same team that failed to reach the playoffs after bowing out in the play-in tournament. After an up-and-down 2025-2026 season, the hope is that Stephen Curry will stay healthy to lead this group in what looks to be their last title run together.

Dallas Mavericks @ San Antonio Spurs - Nov 4

This Texas-sized rivalry meets again when the Dallas Mavericks head down the I-35 to face the San Antonio Spurs.

Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs are fresh off a Cinderella-story season, taking Game 7 over the Oklahoma City Thunder and punching their ticket to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2014. The Mavericks found themselves on the opposite side of the spectrum, losing Kyrie Irving to a torn ACL injury in March of 2025 and ultimately going 26-56 last season.

This season, the young Mavericks hope to work through their growing pains and change the narrative against a Spurs team hungry to make it to the NBA Finals again.

Philadelphia 76ers @ Cleveland Cavaliers - Nov 6

In what could be his last season, Philadelphia 76ers forward LeBron James returns to the place where it all started: Rocket Arena. Only this time, LeBron returns in his 24th season to the city where he began building his legacy to face the Cleveland Cavaliers.

But this matchup isn't just about emotions. It'll be competitive from the tip. Despite the growing pains they will inevitably face, the 76ers have stars that know what it takes to build a dynamic team on the court.

They may not be stacked with big names like LeBron, but the same goes without saying for the Cavaliers. Cleveland made a push for the NBA Finals before getting knocked out by the eventual champion Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals, making them legitimate postseason contenders this upcoming season.

Boston Celtics @ Los Angeles Lakers - Jan 7

Since their first NBA Finals meeting in 1959 and 11 NBA Finals meetings since, the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers have solidified themselves as two of the NBA's most heated rivals.

Now, this deep-rooted rivalry is set for another showdown as the Celtics head to Los Angeles to face the Lakers. But now, these rivals share an interesting commonality: their star players now play for the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Lakers are entering a new era in the midst of a rebuild without LeBron James. The Celtics are doing the same after trading Jaylen Brown to the 76ers for Paul George.

These rivals might not be championship contenders as of writing this preseason preview, but their rivalry runs deep. Fans can expect a heated matchup come January.

Miami Heat @ Philadelphia 76ers - Jan 8

In January, the Miami Heat are heading to Philadelphia for a star-studded matchup against the 76ers.

After acquiring two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks and transforming the Eastern Conference, the Heat are all-in this season. And they're not alone. As previously mentioned, the 76ers added LeBron James and Jaylen Brown to a roster that already featured Joel Embiid. Philly is now a superteam built for the NBA Finals.

As two of the NBA teams that put it all on the line to build star-stacked rosters, these dramatic offseason moves ultimately boil down to a must-see, regular-season matchup.

New York Knicks @ Boston Celtics - Jan 13

Two of the NBA's oldest and most iconic franchises, the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics take the NYC-Boston rivalry to a new level.

The rivalry meets again in the 2026-2027 season, when "The Garden" battle at TD Garden adds another wrinkle: the Knicks arrive as reigning champions. Following their surprising offseason moves, the Celtics will be navigating a slight rebuild. While the Knicks attempt to run it back with their championship core intact.

For a classic Celtics vs. Knicks matchup, little fuel is needed to fire up the rivalry. So expect this January showdown to be white-hot.

Los Angeles Lakers @ Dallas Mavericks - Feb 28

In February, Luka Dončić faces his former team when the Los Angeles Lakers head to Dallas.

Back in 2025, the trade shook up the NBA. The Mavericks sent Luka to the Lakers, where he teamed up with LeBron James, with Anthony Davis headed in the opposite direction. Fast forward to the start of this season, and even more has changed. Now, Luka is headed back to Dallas without LeBron. Similarly, Davis has left Dallas, while Cooper Flagg leads a new-look Mavs team.

The irony is not lost on us. But as we look forward to this matchup, the real question is: which team won the three-team mega trade?
