Since September 2023, KBR has been working alongside Woodside to deliver the Pluto Train 1 Scarborough Modifications Project in Western Australia. The project will enable the existing Pluto LNG Train 1 facility to process up to three million tonnes per annum of gas from the Scarborough Energy Project through modifications to existing plant and associated infrastructure.

The project presents significant technical and delivery complexity, combining the challenges of brownfield execution, modular construction and integration within an operating LNG facility. The scope includes installation of a Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) Unit, Nitrogen Recycle Compressor, gas custody metering systems and a range of upgrades to supporting facilities, all within the existing Pluto LNG footprint.

Since contract award, KBR and Woodside have progressed detailed engineering, procurement and construction activities while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality and execution certainty. Leveraging KBR's integrated delivery model, teams across the organisation have worked together to support execution of this complex modification program, while also creating opportunities for Western Australian businesses, Indigenous suppliers and local communities through the project's supply chain and industry participation initiatives.

A key milestone was achieved in 2025 with the successful completion of the first major module deck lift at the Laem Chabang fabrication yard in Thailand. The lift formed part of the largest of three fabrication modules being assembled for the project, marking an important step forward in module fabrication, integration planning and readiness for installation at Pluto LNG.

The project has since achieved another significant milestone with the delivery and installation of the 4,600 tonnes equivalent NGL North Module. Hook-up of the NGL module will now commence to tie the module into the existing Pluto Train 1 facility.

"Pluto Train 1 is a great example of the value of our OneKBR delivery model. By bringing together expertise from across our global organisation, we've been able to support Woodside through every stage of the project, from engineering and procurement through module fabrication and construction management," said Aaron Fowler, Vice President, Sustainable Technology Solutions APAC. "The result is a highly collaborative approach that enables us to safely deliver complex brownfield infrastructure while maintaining a strong focus on quality, schedule and execution certainty. "

The latest achievement represents another important step in delivering the Pluto Train 1 Modifications Project, with work continuing toward completion as part of Woodside's Scarborough Energy Project.
