EUMAM MOZ supports the start of the school year at Centro de Acolhimento Missão de São Roque

Maputo, Mozambique - The European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ) donated children's books and school supplies to Centro de Acolhimento Missão de São Roque, in Matatuíne, thus supporting the start of the new school year.

During the visit, several sets of school supplies (notebooks, pencils, pens and erasers) were donated, along with some collections of children's books to equip the São Roque Mission library. This library supports not only the students of the shelter but also the local community by promoting reading and learning habits.

EUMAM MOZ would like to thank the organisations that generously contributed to making this initiative possible: the Mafra Municipal Council Library (Biblioteca da Câmara Municipal de Mafra), which kindly provided several dozen books from its collection to be donated to Mozambican communities, and the volunteers from the Social and Charitable Group of the Municipality of Mira (Grupo Sócio Caritativo do Município de Mira) and the Sharing Centre of Cáritas Seixo Mira (Centro de Partilha da Cáritas Seixo Mira), who graciously raised the necessary resources for the donation of school supplies.

The São Roque Mission belongs to the Archdiocese of Maputo, and it is an institution that relies largely on private donations. It provides shelter for orphaned boys and girls, ensuring that these children have the necessary conditions to live and study, while also receiving care and affection from the missionaries.

EUMAM MOZ continues its commitment to act in accordance with International Humanitarian Law, International Human Rights Law and the Women, Peace and Security Agenda. The Mission is currently led by Commodore César Pires Correia from the Portuguese Navy and comprises more than 80 military and civilian personnel from 12 nationalities. The mandate of EUMAM MOZ runs until June 2026.
